Natalie Huijsen, (b. 2002, Sydney, NSW) is an emerging artist, whose practice explores coastal landscapes through the perspective of a surfer who grew up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Through an intuitive approach, she often references site-specific beaches and mimics the immersive nature of water and surfing within both her artistic process and material use. Predominately working with acrylic, water, silk and canvas, she creates washes of colour that freely integrate to create abstract forms. Nat also recycles her abstract silk paintings to create literal compositions of beaches across Australia. Her work is driven by her interest in the psychology of water and our connection to it.
