Ruby McVicar works with sculpture exploring themes of normalcy and absurdity in the quotidian through found objects and their arrangement. They are concerned with value systems inherent in artmaking, with an emphasis on the commodification and institutional framing of artworks. Within their practice objects are unfixed and untethered from their use value, allowing an open-ended possibility for how they may be arranged and viewed. The project offers up ‘everyday experience’ as a valid method to order the world and radical declaration of creative enfranchisement.
