Alek Stoikovich (b. 2003) is an Australian printmaker residing in Eora/Sydney. Her current practice is a mediation of her own embodied real estate history, and the uncanny comfort and familiarity that can be found in the intersection of public and private homogeneous spaces. The continuous thread in her work is a fascination with the domestic interior, and how the four walls of a home, once evacuated of figure and object, are stripped into a state of house. In her work, this emptiness becomes unsettlingly clinical and cavernous as she investigates how space can be established and then dismantled, leaving an abstract trace that resists familiar assignments of nature.
