Isabella Casella ( b. 2004, NSW) focuses on figures in a nocturnal and twilight atmosphere, located in urban settings. Themes of ambiguity and mystery are encouraged by allowing locations to remain anonymous - this is chosen to present the unpredictable nature of everyday life. Throughout various public settings, strangers are observed rather than forgotten. Isabella’s work projects her internal vision based on real events. This includes sketches and written documentation of social interactions, such as body language and perceived mood. One occurring theme she explores is the motif of light. This incorporates an interest in contrasting artificial fluorescence, with natural sources of sun and moonlight. In demonstrating this, Isabella aims to bring attention to the overwhelming use of light, the current dependency on energy, and stimulation, and how technology can impact wellbeing and social connection.
