Ondine Hall is a contemporary artist based in Sydney. Hall creates surrealist-inspired paintings that explore the deep connection between psychological and physical discomfort. Her work touches on themes of pain, illness, anxiety and depression, reflecting on how these struggles show up in the body and mind. With dramatic lighting, stark contrasts and limited color palettes, Hall’s art evokes both empathy and unease. Through expressive oil paintings, she portrays vulnerable figures, inviting viewers to confront uncomfortable emotions they might otherwise avoid. Inspired by artists Jenny Saville, Eva Charkiewicz, and Cindy Sherman, her work also addresses mental health, gender roles and societal pressures. Hall challenges viewers to confront discomfort, creating a powerful narrative of vulnerability and emotional depth.
