Madison-Kate Gribble is an Australian born artist living in Sydney. Her work is embedded in her deep love for fashion and textiles history as well as her desire to further her knowledge of the way the physical form has influenced contemporary fashion. Gribble’s art practices have continuing themes of identity, the physical form, the psychology of marketing and advertising in retail, and fashion evolutions. Her work uses traditional and experimental printmaking methods to detail and document the psychological connection society has towards fashion trends and the role the ideal or nonideal form has had in forming identities. She continues to investigate evolutions in fashion history, their cause, their advertising and the way they have been documented. Her work in lino carving and multilayered screenprints allows Gribble to work with text and the archive, drawing on historical documents to bring new audiences to understand the history of their clothes. Influenced by her background in textiles and complicated relationship with ready-to-wear sizing, Gribble uses archival documents and her own written word to merge her love of fashion with the contempt she feels for the industry.
