@eleanorsdrawings1
Eleanor’s works visually explore elements of the natural landscape, represented through linocuts and lenticular printing. She has a large focus on allowing the material to take part in the audience's perception of her work, acting as a lens to create optical illusion. Central to her practice is the concept of Anamorphosis - ‘distorted projection that requires the viewer to occupy a specific vantage point, use special devices, or both to view a recognisable image’. This idea contradicts and challenges conventional ways of seeing, and immerses her audience in an experience where perception is contingent and unstable. Eleanor further emphasises these visual distortions through her material choices of CMYK linocuts and lenticulars, as they both allow her to create distorted and skewed representations of something that is visually familiar to everyone, the natural world. Although her works begin with image-based references to the landscape around her, they gradually evolve through her printmaking processes. The boundaries of CMYK linocuts and lenticular printing allow her to disrupt the clarity of her initial photographs adding layers of complexity and abstraction. This creates a space that invites curiosity but resists immediate interpretation, as her works change visually depending on the angle from which they are viewed.
