Kika Baker

@k1kakereru

Kika Baker’s practice involves a material exploration with cement, plaster and fabric within and around discarded found objects. These objects are often industrial-like and chosen for their interesting shape, texture, colour or shine. Her works explore opposing yet interconnected themes of emptiness and completeness, absence and presence, and imprint and memory. For Kika, the idea of hollow casting is particularly interesting as it carries the objects negative impressions, creating forms that have completely transcended their original material. In addition to this, the temporal nature of objects is something Kika deeply ressonates with as they speak to time, being the past and the present.
