Gabriel Suni Sallo

Gabriel's work explores childhood, memory and identity through narrative sensibilities. His approach and research has been nurtured by pre-Columbian art and outsider forms of visual language. He takes inspiration from visual elements from his place of birth in Peru, such as Ancient Inka stone walls and ruins, incorporating them in his practice. This process has led to irregular shaped paintings which evoke the concept of remaining memories from his childhood as the stone wall ruins remain incomplete. This approach to painting explores the Latin American diaspora and the idea of hybrid identity in a postmodern world where everyone labels each other. Gabriel believes in art as a way of breaking free from such constraints by confronting our past.
