Jasmine is an art student based in Sydney. Her practice explores the intricate relationship between individuals and the natural landscape. Drawing inspiration from immersive experiences in national parks and wilderness areas, she is interested in the dynamic interplay of light and shadow as they shift across diverse environments, often working from memory and imagination, sketches and photo documentation. Fascinated by reflections in water, and the experience of moving/walking through the natural world Jasmine examines how these visual experiences create alternate spaces—mirrors that reveal hidden complexities within familiar settings. She is particularly interested in breaking with the conventions of traditional landscape painting focusing on building from shapes found in nature and pushing her forms to suggest a psychological experience of place. This approach allows her to propose the emotional resonance of the environment, highlighting themes of presence and absence. Through her practice, Jasmine aims to evoke a sense of unity with the natural world, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and perceptions. The interplay of what is seen and what is implied creates a tension that encourages deeper contemplation of the landscapes she depicts. Each piece serves as a portal, transforming fleeting moments into enduring visual experiences that underscore the profound relationships we share with our surroundings, ultimately inviting a dialogue between the viewer and the ever-changing nature of existence.
