Jacquelyn Stanton is an Australian artist residing in Dharawal country in the Sutherland Shire, NSW. Stanton's art practice revolves around the intersection of art and nature. Her abstract paintings are deeply influenced by the intricate patterns and forms of insects that often go unnoticed. Her paintings aim to contribute to the ongoing concerns related to environmental consciousness and biodiversity.
Stanton transforms insect patterns into visually stimulating compositions that challenge and engage viewers’ perceptions fostering a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things. By focusing on the elaborate patterns found in the insect world, her work delves into the ways these designs can evoke new perceptions. Her material process involves working in oil paint in various bright colours often focusing on that same colour intensity found in nature. Inspired by the many examples of mimicry in nature, she has gained a deeper understanding of the science of illusion present in the natural world.
