Samuel Chan (b. 1990, Singapore) is an Australian artist of Chinese-Singaporean descent. His art practice is an investigation of his Chinese-Australian, queer and former-Christian identities and their often-paradoxical relationship with one another. Working across sculpture and installation, Chan juxtaposes the materiality, cultural signifiers and lore of the East and West. He presents reinterpreted dialectic versions of these elements through the language of mythology, computer games and poetics, and reclaims agency for the expression of identity and the lived experience to hold complex multitudes simultaneously.
