Katerina Asistin is a Filipino-Australian emerging artist residing in Dharug/Western Sydney. Katerina’s practice centres on the exploration of the mundane urban landscape, drawing inspiration from her upbringing in the suburb of Mount Druitt. Through oil painting, she captures familiar and specific locations, transforming the overlooked suburban spaces into scenes that evoke a sense of nostalgia and connection. In Katerina’s paintings, she evokes everyday life, with each piece capturing banal yet domestic scenes from empty parking lots, residential areas and street corners. Her works explore how familiar environments can shape personal identity and collective memory, highlighting the beauty in the often unnoticed aspects of daily life.

Katerina is deeply rooted in her connection to place, memory and identity within the community of Western Sydney, which is evidently reflected in her practice.
